Pistons - 103 - 113 L
Sasser, Ivey, Brown Jr., Metu, Wiseman
Evbuomwan has reached his active game limit as a two-way player
Maybe I shouldn’t, maybe it doesn’t matter but I do give Ivey some credit for playing in all of these games
He has pretty darn durable through his first 2 seasons in the NBA
And I am sure it’s not easy to get up for these games when you see Cade, Ausar, Duren, Stew, Grimes, Fontecchio, etc etc etc not playing (and this is NOT AT ALL me calling those guys out for them not playing, we know for a fact how serious some of the injuries they are dealing with are)
First action tonight is a lob for Wiseman (from Metu) using Ivey as the 2nd backscreen
I continue to like a lot of the set actions Monty and staff run
Only 4 first half TOs for the team and they take a double digit lead into halftime
They have a really nice start to the 2nd half….can they keep it for the rest of the game?
They are just trading baskets right now, would be nice if they could get some stops while they are scoring the ball
They are getting misses BUT giving up OREBs, they have missed a chance here to really keep a double digit lead
I know it ultimately doesn’t really matter but man, it would be nice to pull out this win (up 8 going into the 4th)
Action for Boeheim 3PA to start the quarter and he converts
Up 8 halfway through the 4th and Ivey is coming back in…again, would just be nice to see them finish this one off (hate to waste a 3P shooting night like the one they have had, almost 50% right now)
Metu bucket and big Ivey layup
Clowney has been awesome for the Nets here in this stretch
Pretty rough offensive foul by Wiseman on BLOB
Schroder hits a 3 and the Nets go up by 1…can they respond?
Ivey looks like he throws a good lob to Wiseman but not able to connect (for whatever reason, I tend to think it was a good pass that Wiseman couldn’t handle)
Claxton with a big time block now (just unreal rim protection from the Nets in the 2nd half).....and another one (after review)
Jalen Wilson with what is probably the dagger 3PM
Nets just absolutely destroying them on the OREBs and at the FT line
IVEY will have a good test for his offensive game tonight being defended by Mikal Bridges
Hit his first 3PA of the night, picking up where he left off last game….and then hits his 2nd one on the very next possession
7:45 1st is another example of good process from him
Tries to attack but nothing is there, doesn’t force, doesn’t take an aill advised 3PA and gives it up…gets it back, able to attack the paint and shows patience on 2 feet before finishing an 8 footer
Had some nice creation but even more just some quick and decisive one more passes that kept the ball moving
6 assists and 0 turnovers at halftime
Even takes a charge here in the 1st quarter
Has been the best player on the floor (either team) and not sure it was particularly close
I think his 1st half in this game was actually better/more impressive than what he did last game because that was a little more about him just being hot from beyond the 3P line
Didn’t get back into the game until about 5:00 in the 2nd quarter (not necessarily “judging”, just making a note)
He does really need to improve the accuracy of his passes, they are SOOO off target far too often
I like the way he has attacked the rim in the 3rd quarter but has to find a way to make some of these drives more fruitful
Misses one and gets blocked on the next 2 (all 3 may have been blocked)
Gets another one blocked late in the game
LOVE the asst:to ratio (10:0) but the efficiency from the field really took a hit in the 2nd half
SASSER continues to show that ability to create separation with the dribble to get a jump shot for himself
He has it going early tonight….this going to be his turn tonight after Flynn and then Ivey in the last 2?
He might not have the scoring output those guys had BUT he definitely has it going right now
This trailed off a bit in the 2nd half
FLYNN misses his first 2 attempts again tonight, would be nice to see him just get 1 make because you know it’s probably starting to get in his head a little bit after the 50 point performance
Has missed his first 6 shots in this game after missing all of his attempts last game
I still like some of the other things he does (some real impactful defensive possessions and he has 5 assists) but he has to make shots
HEY!!! Finally gets one to go to extend the Pistons lead here in the 4th
METU isn’t flashy at all but he does do some nice things, just looks like a player that has been around the league for 5/6 years
Really nice game so far from him as he is perfect from the floor, gets another bucket here mid 3rd
Stays perfect with a TOUGH running hook in the middle of the lane
HUGE bucket ATO and the perfect night from the floor continues
RHODEN has actually been pretty active here in the 1st half and flashed more than a couple times (offensively and defensively)
BROWN JR. able to knock down a couple C&S 3PAs here in the 1st half
He is having a really nice game in terms of making the shots the roster needs him to
Hits another BIG one here in the 4th as the Nets are really making a run
Another one to start the 4th and he has 5
Numbers definitely do NOT show it but I feel like he has really been trying to be active on the OREBS in the last few games (maybe it’s just been flash plays)
WISEMAN in foul trouble in this one
GIBSON CORNER 3PM!!!
NOWELL even giving them some scoring production
Big time 3 here middle of the 4th to keep the Nets at arms length
Nets
Schroder, Thomas, Bridges, DFS, Claxton
This has been ugly for them so far and there is no doubt they are the more talented team on paper
They have 9 TOs in the first 13 minutes
They very well may come back and win this game (honestly, they probably will) but it just has not looked good when you consider they are going up against the Pistons AND this version of the Pistons
I do feel like the have rimmed out quite a few layups, especially in the 2nd half
THOMAS can shoot that thing and ESPECIALLY off the bounce
He is DEFINITELY going to try and get his
He can get all the way to the rim as well
Has missed a couple “easy” ones here in the 3rd
BRIDGES is the epitome of talking about availability
470 consecutive games played which is more than double 2nd place (Harrison Barnes with 217 and 3rd is Obi Toppin at 120)
SHARPE has been a monster on the boards
SCHRODER able to put some pressure on the rim here in the 3rd
CLOWNEY coming in and doing some good things
Active on the OREBs and made a corner C&S 3P
Has a nice contest of an Ivey drive as well and then a straight up block a couple possessions later
And then gets him from behind the very NEXT possession
Hits a smooth looking 3 in transition to pull the Nets within 4
Another big time block
